Heated Hose

The PIRIT Heated Hose only keeps the water from freezing so it will continue to flow and will not make your water hot. Your hose will not make hot water.
The electrical cord on a PIRIT heated hose is 6 feet long.
When plugged in and operating at 100%, the 25' PIRIT Hose draws 180 Watts, the 50' PIRIT Hose draws 360 Watts and the 100' PIRIT Hose, 500 Watts of power. For comparison purposes, the average medium-sized refrigerator uses about 1000 Watts when running.
Yes, all PIRIT Heated Hoses are grounded from end to end including the nickel-plated brass fittings.
Yes! If you have a clean potable water source, PIRIT Heated Hoses are Drinking Water Safe made with FDA sanctioned materials. All of our hoses are Lead Free and comply with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. No other heated hose on the market today can make the claim that it is drinking water safe.
Unfortunately no. Our hoses are only designed to work with an AC voltage power source.
We do not recommend connecting PIRIT Heated Hoses because extension cords reduce electric current to your hoses and they may not work when you need them most. In addition, the nozzles between the two hoses will not be fully insulated and can freeze in extreme temperatures. Attempting to connect two hoses will void the warranty
Although it may seem like a good idea to customize your PIRIT product to meet a certain need, Do not cut or alter your PIRIT Heated Hose. Any attempt to do so will void the warranty and could make your electrical product unsafe to use.
You sure can! When you plug the PIRIT Heated hose in, allow sufficient time for the hose to thaw the ice inside and water to flow again (can take up to 30-40 minutes in extreme cold temperatures). Just make sure both ends of your PIRIT Heated Hose are disconnected from all other hydrants, faucets or nozzles before allowing it to freeze.
How long it will take to thaw depends on two factors; how much water was allowed to freeze in the line from the last use, and the outdoor temperature at the time of thawing. The colder the temperature outside and the more ice build-up inside the hose, the longer it will take to thaw. Give your hose a few minutes to loosen the ice inside the hose, and then hit with water pressure. This will start to push through the ice and accelerate the flow of water. In extreme below-zero temperatures, it can take up to 40 minutes for thawing to be complete.
PIRIT Heated Hoses are constructed with sturdy PVC that will tolerate pressure of up to 150 psi (pounds per square inch.)
Our hoses have been tested to -42 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (minus 41 degrees Celsius.). MAN that's cold!

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING: We have tested our hoses to minus 40 degrees. We performed the test in the controlled environment of an industrial strength deep-freezer. Extreme cold temperatures combined with wind-chill can still cause sections of the hose to freeze. If you use the hose in such extreme conditions, we recommend adding foam pipe insulation to those parts of the hose exposed to extreme conditions. Be sure not to insulate or cover the thermostat.
All PIRIT Heated Hoses power cords are at the "female" or water source end of the hose. If your use requires the cord set be used at the male end, we recommend using an adapter for the nickel-plated nozzle fitting.
No way! All PIRIT Heated Hoses are thermostatically controlled. That means they know when to turn on AND turn off based on the outside temperature. Just plug in, unroll and leave your hose to do its job and your water will keep flowing.

PIRIT Heated Hoses have a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Just return your hose within 30 days of your purchase date and we will refund 100% of your purchase price of the hose. (We will not refund shipping costs.).
Yes! PIRIT heated hoses carry an 18-month, Limited Warranty. Our 18-month, Limited Warranty covers replacement of any hose found to be defective. To claim a replacement hose, the buyer must send us a copy of their receipt or credit card bill (with any sensitive info blacked out), an explanation of the defect and the entire hose, including the power cord. The legitimacy of any claim of defect will be determined at our sole discretion. Any improper use of the hose, including attempting to connect hoses, using extension cords, tampering with the hose or not plugging the hose into a GFCI outlet installed by a licensed electrician with a minimum of 12 gauge power will void the warranty.
Yes it certainly can. If the hose becomes buried in snow, the snow will actually act as an additional layer of insulation to your hose. Eventually the hose will melt the snow.
The PIRIT Heated Hose is only designed to prevent freezing inside the hose and cannot thaw water in connected devices or spigots. it is important that you take measures protect your spigot from freezing.
PIRIT Heated Hoses are constructed with 2 different layers of sturdy PVC and can handle normal wear and tear with ease. As with any hose, if you drive over it a limited number of times, it should still function properly. If you drive over it repeatedly, it will tear and will no longer function. Use proper care and judgment. Please be especially careful with the ends of the PIRIT Hose which house its electronic components--thermostat, splices and cord set.
Not at this time. The engineering behind the manufacture of PIRIT Heated Hoses makes offering custom lengths very expensive and untimely. Because PIRIT Heated Hoses are an outdoor electrical product, components like heating wire and power cord demands can change drastically.
Yes you can! PIRIT Heated Hoses are the preferred cold weather hose for Camper and RV enthusiasts around the world and the only one that uses food safe PVC for clean water. IMPORTANT INSTALLATION TIP FOR RV AND CAMPER USERS: RV and Camper users should note that the thermostat in the PIRIT Hose must not be covered or insulated. Depending on the model hose you have, the thermostat is located under the black bend-restrictor at the male (water out) end of the hose or the thermostat is attached to a short cord (12' to 18") also at the male (water-out) end of the hose.
In most conditions, insulation in not needed. In extreme weather conditions, however, insulation will help prevent your hose from freezing. We have tested our hoses to minus 40 degrees. Auto-Rewind Hose Reel

Strict consumer protection & safety mandates require that PIRIT Heated Products meet UL, CSA & CE standards and they demand us to recommend customers NOT use our product with an extension cord. Variables such as wire gauge, length, quality and safety of the electrical connections can greatly impact consistency of electric power provided to the hose reel and safety of the product when in use. Use of our product with an extension cord is at the USER'S RISK and voids our warranty and return policy. This is an outdoor electric appliance and must be treated with caution and common sense.
The PIRIT Heated Hose Reel is thermostatically controlled so that it only activates when cold temperatures require it to protect the hose. The thermostat that regulates the internal heating element is out-of-sight, mounted in the bottom of the reel so it will get the most accurate ambient temperature.
Will they be protected as well?
The PIRIT Heated Hose Reel does NOT protect any accessories or attachments from freezing. For best results in extreme cold temperatures, we recommend the use of a ball valve type attachment that allows you to leave the nozzle open when not using the hose. Other accessories (i.e. spray nozzle "guns") need to be detached from the hose after use. If you do not disconnect these items from the hose line, they will freeze and can cause damage to the accessory and the hose. Attaching a "quick connect" style fitting to the 5-foot water source hose is recommended as it is necessary to disconnect this end of the hose from the water source after use and allow it to drain.
If you require a running water line for tasks that may take several minutes or hours each day, you may find our PIRIT Heated Hoses are a better fit for you. The PIRIT Heated Hose Reel is designed for simple, brief watering chores. Keeping the hose outside of the heated reel enclosure for an extended period of time will cause the hose line to stiffen and can lead to a frozen hose and cause the auto-rewind system to malfunction. If this occurs, we recommend removing the reel from its bracket and taking the entire reel and hose indoors to thaw.
The 5-foot water source hose is NOT protected from the cold. This part of the equipment needs to be thoroughly drained after use. Attaching a "quick connect" style fitting to the 5-foot water source hose is recommended to make it easy to drain after use.
Frost-protect your water source! The PIRIT Heated Hose Reel does NOT provide frost protection to any additional components like your spigot, faucet or hose bib.
We recommend that you keep the PIRIT Heated Hose Reel plugged in at all times during the cold months. Because it is thermostatically controlled, it will only use power when the temperatures demand it. This allows the hose to be ready at anytime. If you unplug the reel, the hose inside will freeze in subzero temperatures and may take some time to defrost before it can be used again.
If you choose to unplug the reel or lose power to the GFCI that it is plugged into, any water pooling in the hose can freeze. To thaw ice in the hose, plug the hose reel back in to a working GFCI outlet and wait 45-70 minutes for the reel enclosure to properly defrost the hose inside before turning on the water again. Exact thawing time depends on ambient temperatures. Alternatively, you can remove the reel from its bracket and take it indoors to thaw.
When plugged in and operating at 100%, the PIRIT Heated Hose Reel draws 75 Watts, the equivalent of a 75-Watt light bulb.
Although it may seem like a good idea to "customize" your PIRIT product to meet a certain need, Do not cut or alter your PIRIT Heated Hose Reel. Any attempt to do so will void the warranty and could make your electrical product unsafe to use.

Wrap-On Roof Cable

No. A roof & gutter cable is not needed every time it gets cold. It is only needed when you have a combination of snow and cold temperatures.
No. Roof & gutter cables are designed to keep a clear channel around the cable, allowing a path for the melt water to run off. The cable does not generate enough heat to completely melt snow/ice. A cable hot enough to clear the roof would probably damage the roof.
No, each cable must be plugged into an outlet.
No, cutting or altering the cable in any way will render it inoperable and unsafe. Can the roof & gutter cables be used in vinyl/plastic gutters?
Yes
No
No
Anywhere from 2 to 15 years depending on the installation and conditions.
There is an add-on controller called The Roof Guard.
We recommend installing The Roof Guard.
Flat roofs often collect water puddles. The roof must have a pitch so that the water drains off.
No, we recommend the outside temperature be above 50° F, because at lower temperatures shingle material may be brittle and crack.

Pipe Heating Cable

YES!!! The cable will not keep the pipes from freezing if insulation is not properly installed. You should insulate the pipe and cable with 1-1/2 of fiberglass pipe insulation for maximum effectiveness. A properly installed and insulated cable will keep a pipe from freezing at -50° F.
Fiberglass insulation has good insulating properties as well as the ability to withstand high temperatures. We have no way of knowing the insulating properties of all the various types of foam-based insulation’s on the market. Some may have a high enough R value to allow the heating cable to work properly. You are also limited in insulation thickness to the thickness of the foam wall. Typically 3/8 or ½ inch. Fiberglass insulation allows you to add as many layers as needed to achieve the 1 ½ inch thickness. In addition, the inside diameter of the foam insulation is sized to fit the pipe. Adding a pipe cable will cause a gap along the seam in the foam insulation. Also, many of the foam insulation’s are not designed to withstand temperature and could pose a potential hazard should the cable overheat.
NO. Pipe cables are designed to prevent freezing. They do not generate enough heat to thaw a pipe that is already frozen.
The cable only gets to between 70 & 100° F when it is operating. Depending on where it is located, inside or outside. This is about the same or lower then your body temperature. So no heat will be felt.
YES! Our cable is tested for use on all rigid plastic pipe, including schedule 40 PVC, the most common type of plastic used in the US. As long as the pipe is rated for 140° F or above, our cable can be used.
The light won’t turn on until the air temperature is below 38° F, which is the point at which the thermostat will turn on the cable.
As the temperature lowers, the thermostat closes at about 38° F. As the temperature rises, the thermostat will open at about 45° F.
You can check to be sure you have a complete circuit by performing a continuity test. You will need an Ohm meter to conduct this test. Following the instructions included with the Ohm meter for a continuity test, place one lead from the meter on each of the flat blades of the plug from the pipe cable (be certain to completely disconnect it from the power supply first). If your Ohm meter indicates continuity, your cable is unbroken. If the test indicates there is no continuity, there is a break in the wire and the cable must be replaced.
Wrapping the cable around the pipe provides more even heat distribution throughout the pipe. This allows our cable to operate at lower wattage, saving you money on operating costs, while still protecting your pipes to 50° F below zero. Also a straight line installation is very difficult to do because while you are trying to install it the weight of the cable keeps wanting to pull it away from the pipe.
Probably not, after all, it’s the temperature in the space around the pipe that will cause the pipe to freeze.
Yes, but you must take steps to keep the insulation dry. Wet insulation is like no insulation at all. After installing the cable and insulation as per the instructions, simply snap a piece of stove pipe (or other rigid piping) around the installation to protect it. Be sure to size the outer pipe large enough to leave several inches of space between the insulation and the outer pipe. Failure to leave sufficient airspace inside the outer pipe can cause the pipe cable to overheat.
Yes, as long as the pipe is properly supported to prevent excessive flexing or movement.
We don’t recommend this. Our cable is designed for use on pipes which are always filled with water. Use of a pipe cable on a drain line may lead to overheating the cable as there is often no water in the pipe to act as a heat sink.
No. Our cable is designed only for heating water pipes 1 or less in diameter. In fact, they do not produce enough heat to protect a drum or tank. You should call Chromalox at 615-848-2560. They specialize in industrial/commercial heat cable applications.
